The weather has been great so far for all these sports, so it's really been nice to be outside enjoying it! David had a night soccer game at the end of September (I always forget to take my camera to the game). Since it was dark, I couldn't take pictures of the game, but I got Katherine being a ham as usual.
And David with Mommy.
And David with another good friend of his (that we've known since before David was born.)
On to some baseball highlights.
David's doing pretty well this season. He's learning and actually seems to enjoy practice almost as much as the games! He's played catcher a few times...this is just adorable. John was a catcher in high school, so we're a big nostalgic for this one ;-)
So I'm not sure what the kids were doing when I took these pictures or even why I took these, but aren't they just adorable? I'm biased...
More soccer. Ummm, can you tell we do a lot of soccer this time of year?
Katherine enjoying the soccer game as well. I'm pretty sure she actually took this picture of herself.
Not bad?!
So in April of 2009, we took this picture of David. He LOVES it when Daddy throws him up in the air and he just soars!
So then they just played...seriously, these kids are CUTE!
One evening when Mommy had to work late, they went to the track to work on biking skills. Katherine's a pretty advanced cyclist for 2, no?
This was just a day when she actually sat still long enough for me to put pigtails in her hair.
And she finally got her artwork put up at the gazebo at her day-care! She was so proud!!
So the day-care (and David's school) were both closed for Columbus Day on Monday. Mommy had to work and couldn't get away, so Daddy (again, being ever the super-hero) decided to take the kids to the State Fair! They had a great time - but I'll let John tell you all about it.
I don't even remember the last time Katherine had a haircut. We're trying to grow out those bangs (as well as the rest of her hair). It was getting pretty long and straggly (is that a word?) so we took her in. She was actually pretty good - but they bribed her with Dora. Works for just about anything.
So the BIGGEST news of the last few weeks is that we FINALLY got Katherine into a big-girl bed! She was actually kicking her crib during the night because she was getting too big, so it was certainly time for the change.
We don't have the bedding or any decorations for her room yet, but we have started shopping. So far, Katherine and Mommy have some pretty serious creative disagreements that we're going to have to work through. So far, she won't entertain the idea of anything other than a PRINCESS room. I had thought of something a little more subtle.
So - all you creative people out there (well, I guess the 2 of you that still read my blog count as "all") let me know your ideas for super-cute-big-girl rooms!!
Every year on October 1st (or the first school day in October) David's school has "Special Friends Day." Now, while this might not sound like that big of a deal, don't be fooled. It's a HUGE, GIGANTIC, if-my-parent-doesn't-come-I'm-forever-scarred-and-will-never-recover kind of deal.
I'm an accountant, so October 1st isn't exactly the *best* day for me. It's the first day of the third quarter close and it's a very hectic, crazy, oh-my-gosh-can-someone-give-me-a-V8-day. So, John, being the wonderful father that he is has taken this day with David for the last two years. I've resigned my fate that I just won't be there for him on this one day every year.
Until this year. On Sunday before Special Friends Day on Friday, David brings it up in casual conversation.
David - Mommy, remember, Friday is Special Friends Day!
Mommy - I know buddy, that's a really busy day for Mommy at work and I just can't make it. Daddy loves to go to school with you on that day and he's going to be there this Friday too.
David - Mommy, can't you please just go with me ONE year?!?!?!
Mommy - Of course I can David.
So, Mommy arranged, begged, pleaded, borrowed and owes her wonderful team at work for supporting the time away on a nutty busy day in order to go to special friends day.
I'm happy to report that David spent a whopping 15 minutes sitting with me while he ate. Kids!
So this is David with a good friend of his.

We took this picture a couple of weekends ago - he still loves it!
So we tried it with Katherine. Ummm, she's not so sure about this! This was the best picture we got out of about 7 or 8. She looks terrified in the rest of them. Poor thing! She does laugh when she gets down, but after 8 times or so, she was done.So then they just played...seriously, these kids are CUTE!

HI!
Cute pictures! Your kids are getting so big! And I understand about work and daycare/school days...they always have the best timing. (sigh)
I also understand about the whole growing the bangs out...we are now in a place where Karsyn's bangs can go back in a ponytail or headband. But man - it was hard and annoying getting there!
As for the kids room - you are super nice to actually include her opinion! haha! I just picked it all out for Karsyn - but if I would have let her have an opinion it would have been princess stuff. One idea is to get the bedspread, etc you want (I got Pottery Barn off of EBay - new and all - and saved a ton) and then maybe hang up framed pictures of the Disney princesses or other princesses she loves? I'm like you - the last thing I wanted was a princes room! Good luck! ;-)
Wendy
We're growing Audrey's bangs out too. I try to keep a clip or headband or something but it seems like they're always in her face when it comes time for a picture. I agree with Wendy, you can do a subtle room with pretty fabrics and colors and just add touches of princess stuff. A framed picture or a princess on a shelf or a throw pillow. Got to love pigtails!
Mom points to you for making the friend day. You can skip the therapy fund deposit this month :-)
We grew Lily's bangs out when she was small. It was a challenge, as I'm sure it is when they are 3+ as well. It's worth it though!
Yay for a big girl bed! I agree with Wendy and Monica. Pottery Barn on Ebay is awesome. We went with the birdie quilt bedding from Target (still there too). I like Monica's point of just adding splashes of a theme (but then I'm not a Theme Throwing Up on a Room kind of person). Like Wendy, I didnt exactly give Lily a say. It was more, "look at your bedding, isnt it cute?!" and she was like "YES!". Manipulation, yes, I know. hee hee!
I was about to resort to the phone for an update on the Ferguson Four----
Love the catch up news and great pictures.
Katherine in a big girl bed--i guess it is time, but just seems like yesterday that she arrived!
On room decor--Wendy and Monica have great ideas--and a Princess touch is not all bad--she could be insisting on Dora!
David is becoming quite the athlete with all his sports activities.
Are you making the annual trip to the Pumpkin Patch this year? Don't forget the camera!
