So for the general update - 2nd grade is going fine. David's having his normal adjustment-to-change things, but we're working through them with fewer bumps than last year. He seems to improve the transition from summer to school a little bit every year.
He's decided he wants to be a boy scout! More on that to come, but this is the first time that he's come to us and told us something that he wants to do, so we're supporting it. Even though it means door-to-door sales. Anyone want some popcorn?!?!
Katherine is doing well too. She's in a new class at her day-care and she loves her teachers even though she still doesn't really enjoy getting dropped off in the morning. That girl can throw a FIT first thing in the morning!!
So, starting at the end of August with pictures...we decided it was time for Katherine to have a dress-up princess outfit. Let me just tell you, this girl is GIRLY!!
David and John cooked their now famous chocolate chip cookies! I truly normally prefer the Nestle Tollhouse variety, but when John & David make cookies, they are SUPER yummy!! I'm pretty sure David is a chocolate cookie expert.
We also started up baseball and soccer season. Mental note, I need to get a picture of David in his uniforms!! Okay, so instead of showing you pictures of the baseball game, I'll show you what Katherine was doing at David's first baseball game with his teammate's little sister. Aren't they just adorable?!
Katherine also got a new bicycle this month. She calls it her bi-ya-sickle. Very cute. For another mental note, I should get a picture of her actually riding the bicycle. She does this fairly well already, which is great, but sometimes she gets going a bit too fast!
Katherine and Mommy did take a short roadtrip to Lubbock this month as well. It was just over a weekend as a very dear high school friend of mine had a baby shower in Lubbock and I wanted to be there. Katherine does very well in the car, and even with just the two of us for over 5 hours, she was great!
Meme has the funnest piano in the world, and Katherine LOVES to play it!!
Now, as for the trip back, it wasn't quite as smooth. We stopped in Post (yes, that's only 40 minutes from Lubbock) for gas. I got gas, went to the restroom (well, we were already stopped) and then got back in the car. As I was leaning over to get something out of my purse, I heard a noise between my seat and my door. I leaned over that way and saw a GIGANTIC (okay, 3 inch) grasshopper. Well, anyone that knows me knows that I'm *freak out* scared of bugs of any kind. I tried to stay calm for Katherine's sake, but I still let out a scream and flung the door open. It kindly jumped out (do they have eardrums? Because if they do, I might have shattered his) and we took some deep breaths and went on our merry way. About 15 minutes later, Katherine all of the sudden SCREAMS in the backseat and starts wailing crying. She sounds like something is really truly hurting her. So, I'm pulling over to the shoulder, trying to look in my mirror and she's screaming, "MOMMY A BUG, MOMMY A BUG IS ON ME!!!!!!" So I get out and fling open her door to see some kind of ugly black (smaller than the grasshopper) semi-cricket looking thing on her KNEE!!! This bug is ON MY daughter's KNEE!! How dare he?! So I flick him out the door, but slightly miss and he gets lodged between the bottom of her seatbelt and her car seat. Now she's really losing it, so I grab a towel, dig him out and fling him onto the highway. Hopefully the little stinker got run over too. I can't believe he did that. For the next 4 hours, about every 5 minutes, Katherine would think there was a bug in her seat. A few times she even cried. Of course, nothing was there, but she was clearly traumatized.
I wonder if something like that happened to me when I was a kid and that's why I'm so scared now? Oh dear, we need to deposit some money into her account for later therapy.
Whew - I hope I never have to relive that again - it was awful!!
So when we got back home, for some reason, the kids decided to get out their Easter baskets and plastic eggs. These things are STILL out in my living room and this picture was on 9/19. They've made up many a game with these.
Again with the sports game and I didn't actually capture the actual sport going on. Nice, mom, nice.
So here are John & Katherine playing during David's night-time soccer game last week.
So did anyone know that 3 days ago was the vernal equinox and an egg will stand on its end? I just read it on Facebook, I have no idea if this works every other day of the year. But this is the kind of fun I have after the kids go to bed. Impressive, no?
This weekend, precisely on August 25th, I reached the pinnacle of domestication. I actually bought a sewing machine!! I know, I know, it's crazy, but there have been 2 times recently when I really could have used one. Last time I borrowed my neighbor's, but that doesn't seem very neighborly to depend on hers, so when the 2nd time happened, I thought I'd ante up the girl card and buy one.
Here are my first two projects!!
David wanted a pillow to take to school, which was the first project. But, it turns out I made it a little big so it's a teensy bit difficult to get into his backpack every day. I had extra fabric, so John asked if I'd make a smaller one for ease of travel. Also, it only seemed fair that Katherine have her own, so that's the pink one. Oh yes, I can knock out some fluffy (hide the mistakes) pillows!!
Final accomplishment note of September, John & David FINALLY finished everything there is to finish in New Super Mario Bros Wii. As you can see, they've actually done it twice, but the first time they didn't get *shimmering* stars because they didn't know not to use the little helper dude (who knew, he's not even very helpful). Anyway, when they found out that their 5 stars really wasn't *everything* they did it all again. It's hard to tell in the picture, but for the 1st file, the stars are flat. In the 3rd file, they're shimmering. Oh yes, it's a BIG deal.
So here are just a couple of cute pictures of the kids.
Okay, did I mention that Katherine is super-girly?? She actually asks me to paint her fingernails and toenails. Can you imagine? She thinks she's Suri Cruise. But seriously, aren't those cute fingers!?
And some girly poses to go with her girly fingers and toes.
This weekend, she actually started to carry a purse. She would put a few toys in hers and insist that she take it whenever we left the house. It's hysterical, and she LOVES it!!
So here comes the 2nd reason why I got a sewing machine. David's cub scout uniform! Can you believe they think that moms can actually sew on these tiny little things?!?! Wow - this was way harder than I thought it was going to be. I think my dreams of becoming a seamstress are officially dead. Maybe I can hem up some pants (if Meme will teach me - HINT!!)
So, is he not the CUTEST cub scout you have ever seen?!?!? I realize I'm partial, but seriously, this is adorable.
Katherine wanted to be part of our photo shoot outside...
Aren't they both so adorable?!?!
So I always forget to write stories down that the kids do or say. They do say the craziest things, and they're always hysterically funny, but I'm also very forgetful, so I never remember long enough to actually blog them. So last night, David made me laugh, so I captured it really quick...here goes...
John is out tonight with some guys watching a football game, so it's just me and the kids. I decide it's a great time to sew David's cub scout badges on his shirt. I hear David quietly go into the kitchen, open a cabinet and quietly close it.
Now, David never does anything quietly so when he does, it's certainly suspicious. I ask, "David, what are you doing?" He says, "I'm going to go help Katherine with her game." I say, "What are you doing now?" He says, "Walking back into the toy room." I say, "What did you do in the kitchen?"
David - "Nothing."
Me - "David, tell me what you did in the kitchen."
David - "I threw something away."
Me - "What did you throw away?"
David - "It's nothing for you to be concerned about Mommy."
Me - "David, tell me what you threw away."
David - "A booger."
Why is it that nose humor is always so hysterical to me?!
So, about those cub scouts...popcorn anyone?!?!?

Love the picture of Katherine looking up at big brother so handsome in his cubscout (is that one word?) uniform. Did you get the idea for the therapy fund from us? We've made quite a few deposits for Cole and Audrey and if we invest it right, it might just cover all the damage we're doing :-)
