Yes, there are first day of school pictures too. Wouldn't be a good blogger (yes, that's still very much in question at this point) if I didn't include first day of school pictures!! Facebook was all a-buzz with first day of school pictures today! I can't neglect the blog!!
Before we get to that...remember when I told you that the Henry's came to Dallas the week of David's birthday? Well, aren't they just so cute???
I would venture a guess that this was David's favorite birthday present - Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Wii. He also got a book that tells him all about the game. I'm pretty sure that as of the time of this blogging, he's read the whole book at least 3 times. During the summer. When we were NOT requiring him to read. Often times instead of actually *playing* the game.
Anyway, he likes the game and he likes the book and I suppose that's what's important.
And doesn't he just look so proud?!?!
Lauren read to Katherine too - it was very sweet. She would do it without being asked, just to spend time with her baby cousin. Lauren is such a sweet cousin!!!
I'm not sure how I managed to not get any pictures of Chris this trip, but I do feel pretty guilty about that. That is, until I realize that in the entire month of July, I took less than 20 pictures TOTAL - and that includes my phone. I'm not so good with the pictures and the taking this summer...
PawPaw gave David this super fun sprinkler for his birthday. Nothing says summer fun like a sprinkler with crazy straws flinging all over the place.
Apparently Katherine has to concentrate to run through the sprinkler...not sure what that tongue is about.
I thought this was a cool action shot.
Followed by a cute posed shot. Aren't they just adorable?!?!
Katherine's teachers are often telling us that she's quite the little mother in her class. Not only when they're playing with baby dolls, but also with the other kids. She's quite a nurturer this one!
I cannot explain why I wasn't missing the next few pictures when I blogged about David's 7th birthday and didn't have his height chart or the pictures of him blowing out his candles. WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?!
So here he is next to the height chart. He's grown about an inch and a half each of the last two years. I'm pretty sure he'll be taller than me before he's 12.
And a close-up of the growth chart. What a big boy!!
Of course, since David isn't really a fan of cake, ice cream, brownies or really anything sweet other than chocolate chip cookies, for something like the 4th consecutive year, John made David a LARGE cookie for his birthday. We put 7 candles on it and sang away.
Of course, as you can see from John holding his phone like a video camera, there IS a video. However, I'm still struggling with the moving of the phone video to the Mac/Blog compliant format that's somehow post-able on this here blog thing-ie.
I'm gonna need to call for reinforcements on this one.
Now this is just funny. I'm pretty sure that none of us are actually asleep in this picture, but I have a similar one with animals surrounding me. Again, it's an actual picture not a digital one, so I'm not going to show it to you.
This was during the floods that overtook the area in early July. The kids thought it would be fun (or did DADDY think it would be fun??) to go play in the rain.
Doesn't Katherine just look like a little imp?!
That water is DEEP in the alley!
Katherine is on a big kick still with this silly smile that she gives us all the time when we're taking a picture. I'm not sure what the bunched up nose is about, but we go with it.
This picture was taken about a month after the one above. Same smile...
So this was the night before school started. They are playing with a marble run toy that David got at some point and, of course, they've made up a new game to go with it. They're trying to knock the marbles off the track as they speed by.
It would be so silly just to watch those marbles, right? We have to have interactive toys!!
And of course, now for the obligatory pictures!!
Today was DAVID'S FIRST DAY OF SECOND GRADE!!!
I can't even believe how fast the time has sped by. It's a foreshadowing of how fast it will go for Katherine to be in the 2nd grade too, I'm sure.
I walked David to school this morning. Very normal morning, almost like there it hasn't been 12 weeks since we last took this walk to school! I did ask him last night if I could walk him all the way in to his class room and take pictures of him. I did get the okay.
I hear from other parents that this is probably my last year for that.
And of course a GIANT hug from his teacher as he walked in the door. We're very happy with our teacher this year - she taught 1st grade last year and moved up with David's class (it's a big one) to teach 2nd grade. We've had many friends who had her last year (and several who are thrilled to have her again this year!!) and they all say great things about her.
Here's looking forward to a GREAT year in the 2nd grade!!!!
I couldn't be more proud of him if I tried. What a big boy!!!
