So this was a little gift from the Ferguson Four to Mommy:
I've always wanted a piano, but I haven't been willing yet to actually find a place in the house for one and buy it. We found this one at a dealer in south Dallas - it's used, but beautiful! So far we love it. After a month in our house, they'll come out to re-tune it and we're getting close to that. We got it in early August.
I have really enjoyed re-learning to play, but even more than that, I want the kids to be able to read music and play. I think it's good for more than just music, but it's great for that too!
Katherine's attention span is (IMHO) still a little bit short for lessons, but she's begging for them, so maybe I'll work with her a little bit.
David had his first lesson tonight. I went to an orientation with the teacher last week and I'm cautiously optimistic about this method, even though it's a VAST departure from the way I learned. I think it will be motivating and encouraging as well as give him a love for the instrument without being too pushy. If you're curious about the method, here's the site, go check it out!
The whole point of posting this blog entry (the video won't load to Facebook) was to show you this!
David was itching to get home and try out the song he learned at practice. It's about 10 minutes from his teacher's house to ours and the whole time he was telling me how much fun he had and how he couldn't wait to show Daddy the song he learned.
This video was taken the first time he played the song he learned tonight - no practicing and no retakes.
Was this a good enough reason to post to the blog again!?!?!

Way to go, David! Clearly he's a musical genius. It goes along with the math ability, doncha know. =)
Hi! We do the Suzuki method and they say to start them around 3. Katherine isn't too young - the sooner they start, the easier it is for them to learn and it becomes second nature to them. Are they good at it...not really! Do they always pay attention? Nope. But it is amazing when at age four/five they are playing a full song on their own. :-)
Love it!! Can't wait til David is back to play Meme's piano!
