Okay, so seriously, do you think ANY of that is true?
Nope, not a word.
So I actually thought that Father's Day was next weekend. I was prepared, I did have a small gift for John, but it was purely coincidental that I was actually ready. John's only request for the day was that he get to watch the US Open this evening. Not much to ask, right? Nope, it's not - he rocks.
I figured it out because I caught a glimpse this morning of a picture that Katherine brought home on Friday. At daycare last week, they made a really cute picture out of her footprint. It looks like a golf course. Very clever! So anyway, I was kind of teasing that they sent it home a whole week early and John kind of rolled his eyes and said, "No, my dearest, lovely, wonderful wife, it's today."
Okay, so those weren't his exact words, but they're close.
So we quickly got on the phone to call our fathers. John's dad lives 3 hours away, mine about 30 minutes. On Saturday night we were talking to the kids about technology. John told a story about how he (John) used the be the remote control in his house. His dad would tell him "FLICK IT!" and John would change the channel. My mom and dad divorced when I was young (a little older than Katherine in fact), but my dad has always been a huge part of my life. He even drove to Lubbock for some sorority thing that I don't even remember the purpose of now. He did everything he could to help me with the costs of college, he bent over backwards to pay for my wedding, and then offered to pay me once when I did little more than balance his business checkbook. Daddy, I think you pre-paid all the accounting services I can give you - you just made the check out to Tech instead of me. Then he gave me away on my wedding day to another amazing father - trusting him to take care of his baby girl. He's as patient as Job with me and he's always been whatever I've needed him to be. I love you Daddy!!
So for the rest of the day. This morning, I got really ambitious and decided to open the paint and let Katherine and David paint outside!
Which quickly turned into a sprinkler play-time #1.
Followed by more artwork in the air conditioning.
Now I'm not ignoring David in all these pictures, he's just too fast. Also, he was playing Wii with Daddy while we did some of this stuff.
We ran some errands this afternoon (yes, John actually went SHOPPING on Father's Day). Don't you feel so sorry for him? I told you - he had only one request! Then this evening we played in the water again. Sprinkler + Trampoline = Fun-In-The-Backyard-Without-A-Pool!!
Before we could even get dinner ready, we found this after a little bit of peace and quiet in the other room:
Yes, it was quite a day.
And for the record, John is in the living room right now, watching the TIVO'ed US Open.
John, I love you dearly and I couldn't have wished for a better father for my children. You're amazing, giving, selfless, and you make me a happy mom and wife every day.
Daddy, I love you so much and I'm so thankful for every moment we get to spend together. I consider it a blessing to live in the same city with you, and I'm honored to call you my Dad.
Don, I love you and I'm so grateful to you for your part in raising John to be such an amazing dad.
Gary & Robert, to my brothers-in-law - you are amazing fathers and role models to your sons (and daughter). Thank you for being so wonderful to my nephews and niece. Also, thank you for showing my nephews how to someday be great fathers.
Happy Father's Day!!

Loved your intro! Robert and I laughed and laughed. I wasn't up to funny this morning (afternoon?) when I wrote mine.
Hugs to you and the family!
