Thanksgiving Catch-Up

Wow, I have some catching up to do! I realized last night that I still have pictures that I haven't posted from Thanksgiving! Yikes!

At David's school, about 3 weeks before Thanksgiving, we got a note home that over the next 3 weeks, David was going to have some homework. He needed to create a Thanksgiving costume. He could either be a Native American Indian or a Pilgrim. They included some instructions on how to create a vest from a paper sack. They were specific that the costumes were to be homemade. Obviously, I was in denial that the day would ever come when David would actually have to *wear* this costume to school, so I put the paper away for another day. Well, maybe that wasn't my best mommy move ever. Turns out that the day DID come when he needed to wear his handmade costume that he'd been working on for weeks. Except that he did not work on it for weeks, his mommy didn't get started on it until the night before he was supposed to wear it.

That's right, go ahead and take away Mommy points.

So off to Michael's we went. We got some feathers, some leather strips, some face paint...

Here's David's final costume. Not bad for a one night project?
I'm sure his teacher knows that we were procrastinators for this project. Teachers always know.

On November 15, David had a soccer game. It looked like rain, but we thought the storm would hold off until the game was over. Katherine was not very patient in her stroller that day and John was pushing her around. All the sudden, she started crying and John caught a bee on her hand. Yep, she had been stung. Ouch. John immediately got the stinger out and brought her over to me. There is a doctor dad on David's soccer team, but of course, he wasn't at that game so other moms were googling bee stings on their phones. I ran off to the concession stand to get a bag of ice and while I was waiting (FOREVER) for the 14 year old to put some ice cubes into a cut-off garbage sack, the rain started. Not only did it start, it POURED. I've never seen rain start that fast and fall that hard. People were rushing everywhere and I knew John was all the way over a the field trying to keep up with 2 kids, all our stuff, and get them to shelter.

I ran for the car thinking that John would get there soon with the kids and wouldn't be able to unlock it. When I got there, no John. Then David walked up to the car with another dad. Uh oh. Still no John. So I ask David if Daddy knew where he was. "I don't know." Double uh oh. So that means that John is out there somewhere holding Katherine, a stroller, a soccer bag and wondering where David is. David and I took off, still in POURING rain, toward the field. I couldn't see John anywhere. So we went to the concession stand, tons of people under the overhang, but no John, no Katherine. I walk by another mom on the team and she tells me that she's on the phone with her husband who says John is looking for David. So she tells her husband who tells John that David is safe with me. Whew, crisis averted.

We wait about another 5 minutes or so for the rain to let up just a little and head back to the car. John and Katherine come soon. Sheesh, that was a little bit too much adventure for a soccer game.

So that whole story was to explain this picture. Katherine's ring finger was stung by a bee on Sunday night. She was fine - no swelling, no pain, no itching. Then, FIVE DAYS later, this is what her finger looks like:
Totally weird, right? So this was on a Saturday evening, so we took her to a clinic with the world's oldest practicing doctor who said that she had an infection and prescribed antibiotics. We have to go pretty far away to a 24 hour Walgreens to fill this prescription and when John got home, we noticed that she was supposed to take 2 tsp of medicine. That seemed like a lot for an almost 2-year-old, so we called the Pharmacist back. Sure enough, a less than 30 pound dosage was 1/2 that. Geez people!

Enough adventure? Yeah, I think so too.

For Thanksgiving, the Henry's came for a visit! It was awesome to have them here, even though our house isn't exactly big enough to sleep 9 people. We managed. Well, we were fine, I think the Henry's were slightly less than comfortable :-/

The kids look like they're having fun though!
Except David (??) I'm not sure what that sour face is about.

All 5 kids huddled around a DS.
I'm not sure what Katherine thinks is so funny, but it must be hysterical!

While they were here, we went to see Tech play Baylor at Cowboys Stadium. It was so much fun. We tailgated before the game, so we had a big breakfast, including an oversized pancake!
David lounging while watching Handy Manny - a recent favorite.

David has always loved desert. I'd like to think he gets that from me!

Katherine loves desert even more. She certainly has a sweet tooth and she loves ice cream just as much as her mommy! We often share a bowl. I think the calories don't count for me if she's having some of them too. Perfect logic, no?

Cutie patootie picture of the little princess.
Recently, in the morning, she goes into David's room, stands on his bed and starts jumping. We aren't sure where this came from - she's never seen anyone (that we know of) jumping on a bed, but she LOVES it. Of course, we don't let her do it, but this was too cute not to take a picture first.
She loves playing in her stroller. She has a stroller for her dolls, but she always wants to get in it. She's torn some of the fabric, so we won't let her sit in it anymore, so now she wants her stroller all the time. She'll sit in it and then say, "Mommy push!" or "Daddy push!" or "David push!!"
She's wearing David's winter hat in that last one...not sure why.

This was before we left the house to go see Santa Claus!
Waiting in line for Santa...
David waiting in line for Santa...
Still waiting...
More waiting...
Still more waiting...
Oh, well, the picture with Santa is on our Christmas cards...so I'll post that later.

While we were at the mall, Mommy had a Coach coupon, so we went to see what they have. Katherine found one she likes!
Yeah right...even for his little princess, Daddy isn't going to fork over that kind of cash for a bag for his almost-2-year-old!

Here's another cutie picture of the kids on the computer. David likes it when Katherine watches him play on the computer. She won't do it long, but it's cute.
Whew, so I think we're about caught up now. I'm sure I'll fall behind again over the Christmas week ahead, but at least I'm through Thanksgiving now!

Right now as I type, Katherine is watching her Elmo video with David's winter hat on (again). I'm going to go find out what's so cool about that hat!!

Merry Christmas!!!

Karsyn does the same thing with her stroller - and I can confirm that it will tear it up. ;-) Hopefully you have better luck than we did!

Merry Christmas!!!
