First Day of First Grade!!!!

Look at the boy - he's so BIG!!!
Obviously, today was the first day of school for us. David was so excited and nervous, all at the same time. He had to miss "Meet The Teacher" night, but his AWESOME new teacher, actually called him on the phone Sunday night to see if talking to him on the phone might help ease his transition! She also offered to come by our house and meet him the night before school started so he would already know her when he walked in the door. I think we're already off to a GREAT start with his first grade teacher!! She did talk with him on the phone and I do think it helped him today.

This was right when he walked in her door this morning.
She was great with all the kids, giving them her full attention and making each child feel special as they walked through her door. She had some paperwork for me to fill out and asked me to help David get settled and read the directions on the board. David needed to draw something that he did on his summer vacation.

Isn't he just adorable!??!
His table-mates when they all got there and sat down. First graders are just so cute!!
When he got home, he told us that he had a great day. He got a warm fuzzy today (all the kids did) and they'll get a warm fuzzy sent home every day that their pins don't get moved. I'm not sure of the specifics of that, but we're telling him how PROUD we are of him for getting a warm fuzzy and he's found a place in his room to keep all his warm fuzzies.

He said that overall, the day wasn't as bad as he thought it would be (whatever that means) and that he likes his teacher and his class. They only got to play for a few minutes at recess, and the rest of the day was spent learning the rules.

Here's to another great school year!!!

Oh - if you're looking for a post about our trip to San Francisco, it's currently in draft. I'll post it within a couple of days. I might need Meme to post about what happened with the kids while we were out of town!!

So cute. I like the warm fuzzies. I think its a good idea to have something they can accumulate. Cole gets a green, yellow, red or blue dot on his binder calendar each day. Not quite as fun. But we celebrate greens too!
