Don't look now, but it's another blog post

Once again, life seems to be getting in the way of blogging.  What's up with that!?

Seriously, I think I take a 2 week hiatus from everything that isn't quarter-end close every 2 months.  Maybe one of these days I'll learn to multi-task.  I'm not holding my breath.

One week at Creme when David's class was talking about something educational like plants, they planted a pumpkin in a cup.  Yes, an entire pumpkin seed buried in a 6 oz styrofoam cup.  Oh, the possibilities.

John decided to be a great dad and further this lesson of plant growth with his only son.  We all know Mommy isn't up for that challenge.  So John found a large pot and they planted that pumpkin.  David was BEAMING.  He was thrilled.

Don't get excited for progression pictures of the pumpkin plant growth.  Unfortunately, that four-legged creature that often inhabits our backyard plucked that pumpkin plant right out of that pot and took it off somewhere to chew.  Gotta love that Molly...

David's birthday falls in the last week of June.  Also in the last week of June, Katherine was transitioning to a new room at Creme.  She's moving from the infant rooms to the toddler rooms.  Now, I do think it's a bit odd that she's not in a toddler room until about 6-8 months after she starts walking, but we'll just leave that one to the experts.  Who am I to question when toddler-hood begins?

The morning of her first transition day, I was taking a couple of pictures of her to remember her "infant" days.  David's watching something very educational on the computer, I'm sure.
Doesn't she just look barely toddler-ish?LOOK at what was in her hair when she came home!!!!
Oh my Gosh.  No one ever told me that her hair was long enough to do that!!!  Her new teachers (which I LOVE) Ms. Amy and Ms. Whitney are also apparently miracle workers with toddler girls' hair.  How they got her to sit still for that I'll never know.  I'll also never know how they got them that straight.  I actually got her hair in pigtails for the first time tonight for church and they didn't look anywhere near that good.  I suppose that's something else that should be left to the professionals.

After a long day of playing with Toddlers instead of Infants, Katherine needed some relaxation.
Lots of relaxing...
That Saturday, June 27th, we had David's SIXTH birthday party.  You know, people always told me that the time would fly.  I'm starting to learn to listen to people.  The time, it's flying.  I can't believe my baby boy is 6.

I also can't believe they allow him on bouncy house slides.  This kid is gonna hurt somebody.
This picture was taken at his birthday party in a bounce house in 2006.
This photo was taken at his birthday party in 2009.  What a difference!

The girls had some fun on the bounce house slide too!!  Go Monica & Audrey!
And if this isn't about the cutest...
There was a rock wall, David had to have his Aunt Isa take a picture of him at the top to prove he did it.
David doesn't even like cake, but at the last minute, he decided he wanted one so he could blow out the candles.  We assured him that we could get him a cake and his friends could eat it and we'd bring chocolate chip cookies for him (his favorite), but he just wanted the cake.  Who IS this child that turns down additional sweets?!?!?

Awwww, aren't we cute.
If you're wondering, Katherine was at home with a sitter.  We both wanted to be able to focus on David at his party, so she stayed home.  We've put some money in the therapy fund for her later.

The boys got into a mean game of...well, slide-the-pool-table-balls-across-a-really-long-table-with-the-same-green-felt-on-it.  I have NO idea what they were playing, but they thought it was LOTS of fun.
Here they are getting the very stern talk from the life guard about all things swimming.
And, David found two girls (sisters even) and started playing with them.
All-in-all, I think the party was a success.  Next year, we're going with a low-key theme like "pick 3 of your closest friends and they can spend the night."

That afternoon, we let the kids play on the slip-n-slide again...birthday boy's choice.

Katherine was apparently thirsty.
On Sunday morning (David's actual birthday) he opened the gifts that had come in the mail from family and from Mommy & Daddy.  He asked us not to take those to the party so he could open gifts for TWO days.  Yes, the boy does have his priorities!

And Katherine thought the present-opening was a bit boring, so she was trying on David's shoes.

Since his party was on Saturday and his birthday was on Sunday, it ended up being an "All About David" weekend.  It might take him 3 weeks to recover.

Just another couple of cute Katherine-isms.

She loves to look out our front window.  Her favorite is when I put her up on the window sill.  She'll stand there for a long time and just watch.
She also knows her milk is kept in the refrigerator and she's learned how to open it.  She really likes to just sit in there.  Do all kids do that?
This is her favorite chair on our back porch.  She loves to be outside.
I don't think I've mentioned it, but my WONDERFULLY HANDY husband put in a misting system on our back porch.  If you haven't noticed, it's been about 895 degrees every day so far this summer, and we've totally enjoyed this mist.  One day we watched, and before we turned it on, the porch was 103.  Within about 20 minutes, the porch was (I'm NOT EVEN KIDDING) 76 degrees.  Now, it can get humid with all that mist, but who cares when you're watching kids on a slip-n-slide sitting in 76 degrees in Dallas in the summer!!!  I <3>

Katherine is also very much into the iPod craze.
We made David write his own thank you notes for the first time this year.  I'm not sure if they were legible, but we got the point across.  If you get gifts, you thank people.  He worked really hard and wrote about 20 of them.
More cute pictures on the back porch.  We go out there quite a bit on the weekend.
Aren't they adorable?
Finally, we went to the 4th of July parade.  We had a great time this year, and it actually was only 700 degrees, so quite nice!  John & David had gone to see fireworks the night before, so we celebrated America's Independence pretty normally this year.

Yes, I have stars on my head in those pictures.

David's birthday was "America" themed, so we had plenty of goodies ready for the parade including a hat for David and this headband for me.  We also had flags, noise makers, candy, etc.  We had a lot of fun.

Shout out! It's nice to see my Fam was well represented in the birthday party pics ;-) Audrey still mentions "David's Happy Day!" from time to time. That's a great pic of the 3 of you. I can't speak for all kids but mine both liked sitting in the fridge. It's hard to get much cuter than pigtails on a little girl.

Shout out too!! We had a fun time at the bday!

I remember the girls at our daycare where the first to fix Lily's hair in one and two pigtails. Bless them! It inspired me to try it. Now I can wrestle a running baby and get in a pigtail in a couple seconds.

That's awesome on the misting system! Those are great pics of the kids. I see a lot of you in Katherine. Her hair is really getting thick!
