David and Katherine are already so different from one another. I love to watch the two of them develop into their own little selves. It's amazing how much personality they each have - so I'd just like to point out where they are the same, and where they are different.
Comparing Katherine to David at Katherine's age:
- David did not bother the kitchen cabinets. We were paranoid first-time parents and bought and locked every single cabinet. David never touched 'em. Katherine thinks that they are her toys. She bangs the doors, pulls everything out, throws things around the kitchen...utter chaos.
- David really wasn't a reader. I'd hear other parents talk about their kids and how they loved to sit & read and I always thought they really must be trying to make their kids sound studious or something. David just really didn't like to sit and be read to. Katherine will BEG for a book first thing out of bed every morning. It's also the last thing we do every night. We can't put it down until she nods "yes" when I ask, "Are you done?"
- David would watch a kids' show on television. Maybe a short Baby Einstein or something. Katherine will ONLY watch videos when she's securely buckled in her carseat and the video is the most interesting thing to look at. If we put a video on at home, she's WAY too busy to be bothered.
- David is not a "pleaser." I've struggled with him because of this quality in his personality for a long time. He really isn't all that concerned with what people (including me) think about him. It's great for his confidence and self-image, but not so easy to motivate. Katherine shows signs of being a pleaser. I think it's a little too early to tell, but she just might be.
- David was not fiercely independent. A little older than Katherine he wasn't the kid to want to pick his own clothes or dress himself. He was perfectly content to let Mommy & Daddy help. Katherine is already trying to put on her own shoes and socks and will sometimes get frustrated with me if I try to help her.
Now, for their similarities!
- They both LOVE buckles. Carseats, strollers, high chairs, grocery store carts - every buckle that buckles them.
- They both love to be thrown up in the air by Daddy. David would love it endlessly and Katherine really only giggles for 2-3 times. Then she's done and ready to be put back down.
- They both love to climb on Daddy...or really anyone who will lay down on the floor.
- Neither of them are spectacular eaters, but they both look like they eat VERY well.
- Neither of them have a lot of hair at this age (Katherine's).
- Both of them are often described as being "full of personality."
I'll end this post with a David-ism. Last night when I was tucking David in to bed, I asked for butterfly kisses. David gives amazing butterfly kisses because he got his Daddy's long, dark eyelashes. (As a side note, why did our MALE child get John's eyelashes and our FEMALE child got mine? It's just not fair!) So David gave me butterfly kisses and then he said, "But they aren't as good now since I got them trimmed." WHA?!?!?! I told him that under no circumstances is ANYONE allowed to touch his eyelashes or they'll have to answer to his MOMMY!!! Turns out, John had trimmed his eyebrows...not his eyelashes. Silly boy!!

Like a time capsule-- when they are adults with kids of their own, they will love this post.
Cool comparison! Its amazing how they can be so different and yet grow up in the same house!
