We Interrupt This Blog For A Service Announcement

Well, it has happened.  What I always thought was impossible.  What I always thought I would never do.  What I still think I'm crazy for attempting.

I'm going back to school.

Ugggg, it's so distressing to even think about.  But yes, I'm going to school again.  John has noted that my nerd self has already emerged.  Co-workers have noted that the point system does wonders for my motivation.  It's going to get ugly.

I'm being just a bit dramatic.  Maybe I should take some liberal arts classes!!  No way man, I'd probably fail out.

Here's the story (skip this paragraph if you're already bored).  The AICPA decided that beginning with the November 1997 exam, they would begin requiring 150 hours of college credit in order to sit for the CPA exam.  They would require the status quo 30 upper level accounting hours, and 20 (or so, I'm not sure of the exact number) hours of business courses.  I graduated from Texas Tech University in December of 1997 with an accounting degree.  I did take one extra semester, but I did have a job and get married during college.  Priorities.  Anyway, I went straight through - once I declared Accounting as my major, I never wavered.  I didn't take any unnecessary classes because I didn't flip flop between majors.  So when I graduated, I had 30 hours of upper level accounting and some huge number of business hours.  However, I could not sit for the exam because I only had 134 total hours.  The idea behind the 150 hour requirement was to encourage accounting grads to get their masters degrees.  However, the downside is that people who declared accounting late in their college career who have 15 or so extra hours from switching around also qualify.  Dumb, huh?  So, I still have only 134 hours on my transcript and it's been "suggested" by my esteemed employer that I should consider the certification for my career.  Ouch.  So yep, that means I need 16 hours of "relevant" credit.  When I asked for clarification of "relevant" I was pretty much told that it doesn't make any difference.  The hours must be from an accredited university of higher learning.  I suppose that makes them "relevant".  So, I'm going to the University of Phoenix online for 16 hours of credit.

My first class is image editing.  Joy.  That should REALLY come in handy for the blog, but I'm not sure what else.  For the record, the class was listed in the "business" section, so I'm not SO far off.  I'm also taking a few other business classes and for the one extra hour, some humanities class or something.

The good news is the classes are only five weeks long.  Of course, that's also the bad news.  Cramming three hours of college credit into five weeks makes those five weeks pretty full.  If you're working, the university will not allow you to take more than one class your first time - not that I would even attempt more than one - there's no way.  Anyway, since the classes only take 5 weeks, then conceivably, I could complete the 16 hours within a year or so (breaking for year-end close at work).  It also means that I won't post to the blog quite as much as I'd like.  I can only type so much in an evening.

So watch out.  The nerd has returned.

Back to the kids.  Sorry for the interruption.

David, John and Katherine got down on the floor for a mean game of checkers:

One guess as to who won.  Yep, David sure did.  The guy is a MEAN checkers player.  I think John can beat him, but I literally cannot.  I'm not letting him win when I play him, he can beat me.  Now, I'm not a great checkers player or anything, but I do have a few years on him.  Twirp.

He also had his face painted at school.  I'm not totally sure what brought this on - he's never wanted to have his face painted, but he was proud of the puppy dog on his cheek.
Just to make the summer even MORE interesting, we're going to DISNEY WORLD the last week before David starts Kindergarten!!!!  We've reserved the hotel (THANK YOU DADDY!!) and the flights, and we've started the planning phases.  John and I haven't ever been and David is so excited.  He told all his teachers today and he's counting down the days until we leave.

FIRST! That never happens.

Disney World! How fun is that? You guys will love it, and David is old enough to remember it, so that's awesome.

I'm sure you'll get a lot out of your image editing class -- can't wait to see the fancy stuff you turn out!

Back to school--what a surprise! I think it is great (maybe I should check into on-line courses to see if I could still complete my degree plan.) David must be impressed with his Mom!
Disney World will be so fun--you and John will have more fun than the kids--its the Disney way, so you will come back.
Enjoying all the pictures!
