The Shot Heard Around The World

"The Husband" returns with another post. I started this logged in under Cindy so just clarifying the genius that is to follow.

I have had a smile on my face for about 24 hours now. It took nine games plus three and a half quarters into our last game but David did in fact score a goal. Now U5 soccer may not be quite as important as my title would suggest, but for a proud Dad it is pretty cool. Some of you may know the frustrations that we have had with David and soccer. He says that he loves playing yet when he is out there he does not seem interested. Whatever "it" is, David has not figured it out yet. So we keep reminding ourselves that he is not even 5 years old yet. In fact almost every other kid is 5 and in some cases close to 6 in this league. David happens to be two days short of the cut line for his age group.

Anyway, he is the only one on his team that has not scored this year. Cindy previously explained the point system that we put him on and it seems to have helped a bit. Since this was the last game I brought my video camera because I have plans on making a team video for all of the parents. As luck would have it the perfect storm came together and we have it on video. By perfect storm I mean that in order for David to score this goal his good friend Nathan made a goal kick that traveled three quarters of the field, past all of the players on a team that was not so good, to David who scored. The other factor was that our coach was on the field as a referee since our assigned ref did not show up for this game. He was screaming at Ali to "let David score", which he did. So no, it was not David's blazing speed that made it look as if his teammate was standing still. I am pretty sure David does not score that goal if Jason was not right next to Ali telling him to stop.

You know what, I don't care and I could not be more proud. That perfect storm came together for a reason.  David can now talk about scoring the last goal of the Spring 2008 Coppell Youth Soccer Association Hurricanes team to close out an 11-1 victory over the Lightning.  It was a good day and I am still smiling.

So here are the videos, the second one is the more dramatic version. My new software is really cool and this took no time to throw together, enjoy.

That is AWESOME!!!

I was laughing so hard I was about to cry!

What John failed to mention is that he ended up having to coach since our coach was being the ref. I was the magnificant camera person who caught the whole thing on video.

And just to think - we have the HD camera on order...oh well.

How fun! Let me say, David is now one up on his cousin Josh. Josh never scored a goal. I'm not even sure he kicked the ball - he was too busy looking at bugs and dandelions. Gary and I were so scared from Josh's one season of soccer that Chris and Lauren never even played! Way to go David!

WOW!! Go David--he must be so excited. Cindy's comments also add great drama to the story since we know who was coaching and who was filming--more elements of the perfect storm. I need a lesson on the great video enhancements--love the slow motion replay!
