Before & After

With the painting of the outside of the house, it reminded me that I wanted to take pictures of the inside of the house now vs. when we bought the house. So, just for posterity (and so everyone knows just how wacko our house was before we bought it)!!

I already posted this, but this is the front of the house the day we made an offer:

And this is the front of the house now!

This was the entry way - looking up at the light fixture from 1987 and the wallpaper that could single-handedly make someone drive off a cliff.
New fixture, wallpaper is gone...much better!

This is the dining room. The best wallpaper in the house by far.

We got rid of it anyway and textured and painted. The door handles are still circa 1988, but we'll get to that later.

This is the kitchen before. Nice wallpaper, huh?

And this is the kitchen now. Keep in mind that we still intend to completely gut this kitchen and start over, but we did get rid of the wallpaper and texture and paint the walls. Other than that, nothing too exciting. And yes, that is David's artwork all over the refrigerator. I love every bit of it!

This is the living room before. The chair railing and the walls are the same color. I'm not sure why you would do that!

This is the living room now.

This is the woodwork below the skylight in the living room.
And this is what it looks like now. The painter did the same treatment on these beams that he did on the fireplace mantle.
This is the kids' bathroom - complete with a year younger David! There were at least 3 layers of paper for them to get off in this room.

And this is the bathroom now. I should have put David in the picture again - he's grown probably an inch or 3!! Another before picture of the kids' bathroom.

And how it looks now:

This is the 3rd bathroom. We called this the Christmas bathroom before we moved in. They left the hand towel there. Thanks former owners!!

I think we burned the hand towel. We changed out the towels when we textured and painted this room also. I'll be thrilled if I never see wallpaper again! This is the master bedroom before we moved in. You gotta love the accent wall with the flower curtains. We found out why they picked those curtains after we took them down.
And this is our room now. It's hard to tell, but the shutters actually stop before the top of the window. We suppose that's why they had those kind of curtains. Wow...thank goodness we're getting new shutters!!

And this is the master bathroom before. The carpet was green, the wallpaper was red and green with MORE flowers and the cabinets and trim were painted a very light pink. YUMMY!

And this is the bathroom now! The sinks and cabinets are a piece of furniture we found online that fits "perfectly" (minus a shaving on the walls) into where the old cabinets were. We also changed the light fixtures (I believe we have now changed every single light fixture in the house) and the mirror.
This is the bathtub before. You can also get a glimpse of the wonderful GREEN carpet! The tub was really old marble - turning yellow and the faucet was just about rotted out. It was a jet tub, but we were pretty scared of what might happen if we turn it on. So, John took a sledge hammer to it.
And this is the tub now. It's a new tub with a new surround built around it and tiled. No longer a jet tub (John is the ever vigilant germ-a-phobe), but much larger, once we turned the hot water heater WAY up, it's a great bath!!

Finally, this is Katherine's room before we moved in. We gave David the choice of rooms, and he actually picked the smaller of the two. We tried and tried to get him to pick this room, but it was like he knew he would be having a little sister who would probably make his life miserable if he didn't allow her to have the bigger room. Anyhoo, this is her room before - I'm not sure what they have going on with the color scheme here, but to each his own, right?

And of course, this is Katherine's room now. I think it looks MUCH better!!

I think we've done pretty well with everything! We'll have to do a separate post for the backyard transformation. I know, you're all waiting on baited breath.
