First, let me say, read John's post below if you haven't already - he gives all the baby "facts"...
I'm up only for a minute - no one is allowed to gripe at me, these nurses are slave drivers and they woke me up and I've nothing else to do besides blog to make myself sleepy again!
I *finally* got to go see my baby girl about 8:45 this evening and let me just tell you - she's beautiful!! The pictures just don't do her justice. I think she looks a lot like David did as a baby, but she does look different from the nose down. I just sat and watched her for almost an hour.
I recognize every move I saw her make as the way she used to move in my tummy!! When she sleeps, she has a jerky reflex that she's had for about 2 months now. She also will put her knee up and move it back and forth. It's so funny to see her do it now.
She is on room air now - 21% oxygen, but she is getting it pushed (not sure if that's the right word) through a tube at 1.5 liters. She was at 2 liters at 8:00 tonight, and they are going to wean that down through the night tonight. I just called and checked on her and she's still at the 1.5 liter mark and the nurse thought they'd probably leave her there for a while longer. They're being very cautious and weaning her very slowly (which is also very good for her Mommy).
I asked the nurse while I was in there what caused the fluid in her lungs in the first place and she said some babies just get squeezed just right when they're being born and they breath in the fluid too late (?!?). Not sure if I got that right. She also said that her (almost) 35 week gestation means it's more difficult for her to breath as well. She's doing as well as they expect at this point though.
I'll try to keep you all updated as we progress through the next few days. They seem to pretty much expect her to get jaudiced, so that may be our next issue even though right now she's fine. They will start testing her for that sometime tomorrow.
Also, just so everyone knows, I'm doing fine. I had a small issue with my epidural and they had to do what's called a "blood patch" so my back is pretty sore, but overall I'm doing well (you know, except that I'm not ASLEEP right now!!) The diabetes is gone, so I'm going to have a cookie (YUMMY!!!) that my good friend Laurie brought me and go night night until 4:00 when the slave drivers come back.
Night night all!!
