Since we usually go out of town for Thanksgiving, we usually use the weekend before Thanksgiving to get out all our Christmas stuff. That way, when we get home, it's all already done and we just get to enjoy it for the month! It used to seem early to me - my family never got Christmas started that early, but now that I'm used to it, I really like it!
However, this morning, when John mentioned getting all the stuff down, I actually had to take a second to remember that THIS weekend is the weekend before Thanksgiving! It just doesn't seem possible. Where did the year go?
We got started and quickly became frustrated with our tree. It's probably 4 or 5 years old (not really that old for a Christmas tree I don't think), and it's pre-lit. Well, the lights...they don't do so well after that long. I remember struggling with it a little last year, but this year, there are entire portions of strands out and it's not a light burned out...there's some kind of short in the wiring or something. What a pain!
So, we decided to run some errands. First, we went to pick out these adorable tie-backs for Katherine's room:
Then we also got another tree. We decided that it would be neat to have one in our front window since we have a HUGE window in the front of our house. We thought we'd put the new tree in the living room, and the old one in front of the window, just with the lights (and string some new ones on there so there aren't blank spots.) Well, we got a 9 foot tree since we have pretty tall ceilings and it just looked too big in our living room and it looked spectacular in the window...so, now we'll be adding lights to the old tree and keep it in the living room.
I'm sure you all really wanted to know all that.
I'll take some pictures as soon as we get it all put up...hopefully tomorrow.
David was being impatient on the drive from church to dinner tonight. So he decided to count down until we got there. He had to start over 3 times (there was a bit of a traffic jam). So the first time, he started at 60, then 70, then 100. He sat back there just loving counting down from 100. What a kid! Then at dinner he and another little boy played number games with each other - SOOOO CUTE!! They were asking each other addition questions. He's about a year younger than David, and was really watching close when David would count on his fingers. I think we might see him doing it pretty soon!! They were adorable quizzing one another. He asked David what 16 + 17 is. I told him I didn't even know that! But David counted it out on his fingers and said "33!!" a few seconds later. The other little boy thought that that was TOO fun!
