Math Whiz?!?

Tonight after dinner and bath, David was playing a made up game with his Daddy. Out of nowhere, he said, "Daddy, what is 17 plus 17?" John said, "34. So what is 34 minus 17?" David said, "Silly Daddy, that's 17!" Then he said, "Daddy, 100 minus 9 is..." then he thought for a few seconds, "91!!" John and I just looked at each other. How does he know that? Then he told us that 1,000 plus 9 is 1,009. Honestly, where does he get this stuff? He was asking us all weekend when the "Numbers Game" (aka Deal or No Deal) would be on again.

I spoke with his teacher about it...I mean, I only have one kid, but she's seen hundreds, so her opinion carries some serious weight. Not to mention that he's not, you know...hers, so she's not biased. She told me that she's seen one other boy like David and she just loved it and loved working with him to keep him challenged. She's going to give David some extra worksheets from time to time to make sure he's staying focused, so I was happy to hear that. And I thought I could keep him from Kindergarten for another year...she-yea, right!!
