New Year 2014 Celebration

I said this on Facebook, but it bears repeating here. I have never in my life seen anything like New Years in Germany! In our neighborhood alone, there were multiple fireworks "displays" put on by regular people. I'm pretty sure the house 2 doors down from us had an actual launcher and some way to string the fireworks together in timed succession!

I worked from home on the 31st and heard some booms off and on for most of the day. Some were really loud, some were more quiet. Some sounded like they were coming from miles and miles away and some sounded really close.

About 6:00 in the evening, our next-door neighbors were in the street (remember we live on a "play" street where a single car can barely get by and the traffic is not allowed out of first gear), popping some smaller fireworks. I thought it was a bit odd and I wondered if our car was okay in the driveway, but little did I know what was coming later!

I took a couple of videos from the driveway. I couldn't figure out how to get either one on Facebook, but here they are. Enjoy.

A co-worker told me this morning that fireworks are allowed from 6PM on 12/31 through 7AM on 1/1, so literally all night long. I did hear more during the night, but between about 11:30PM and 12:40AM it was a very constant show, much like you see in the video.
